Futures Lab Merch + November Update

Good afternoon, Futures Lab Community -

We’ve got a few brief updates to share this week as we ease into November.

  • Futures Lab Merch available through November 8 at 10am
  • BELONG: Fall Learner Expo - December 7
  • Turkey Round Up - November 18

Futures Lab Merch - Order by 10am on November 8!

If there’s anything we love at the Lab, it’s merch! This year, we’ve again partnered with local design company Helluva Design to open up a limited run of Futures Lab apparel. Take a look at our online store and get your order in before Monday, November 8, at 10am! It’s a short window, but we want to make sure you have time to receive your order in time for the winter holidays which are approaching quickly. You can request delivery by mail, or save on shipping and pick up at the Lab. We won’t be ordering extras and the store won’t re-open until spring semester so now is the time!

BELONG: Fall Learner Expo - December 7

We believe that deep, authentic learning is enhanced when our learners have the opportunity to see how their learning connects to the world around them. Each semester at the Lab, students share what they’re working on with each other, their families, and the broader community. We don’t take traditional “final exams” so the Learner Expo represents our learners' chance to get their work in front of an audience.

As we celebrate the opportunity to reconnect in-person this school year, the theme of our fall 2021 expo is “BELONG.” We hope you will put a placeholder on your calendar for Tuesday, December 7, from 5pm-7pm. We have booked an exciting, unique venue for this fall’s expo and we are thrilled to host this event at Block One in Old Town Fort Collins. Please save the date!

Turkey Round Up - November 18

Each year the Food Bank for Larimer County provides services to nearly 40,000 residents of our county and many of them are PSD students. The Food Bank has received requests for more than 6500 turkeys this year. Due to the level of need in our community and anticipated shortages in the supply chain, the Food Bank is also accepting frozen chickens and frozen hams as well as plant-based alternatives this year. If you are able, please consider donating to support our families in need this year.

On November 18 between 8am and 9am Turkey Wranglers from Poudre Global Academy and Futures Lab will be waiting in the parking lot between PGA and the Lab to receive your donations. If you’d like to donate, but aren’t able to secure an extra turkey this year, cash or checks will also be collected and counted toward our site totals.

Spring 2022 Reminders

If you haven’t yet signed up to stay with us in the spring and you’d like to, there are still seats left! Please reach out to our counselor, Bethany Condon, at bethanyc@psdschools.org and she will help you get your schedule adjusted. We’ve got an exciting new Design/Build class that we’re piloting this spring as well as new sections of Aviation, Coding, and Business Incubator. We are also launching a new afternoon pathway we’re calling “Innovator’s Studio” for returning Futures Lab students who would like to stay with us and be part of a student-run problem-solving team that uses the Design Thinking process to tackle real problems from real clients in our community.
