Young Women in Leadership is back!

We are proud to offer a program in partnership with Timnath Middle/High School called Young Women in Leadership. This program, in its fourth year, is open to any student from the ten PSD high schools. While we meet at Futures Lab (located at Timnath Middle High School), students do not need to attend Futures Lab to participate. The first meeting is this Thursday, October 6 from 7-8:30 AM. Sign up for our first meeting here.

Q: Who can join YWL (Young Women in Leadership)?

A: Anyone in 9-12 who attends one of the Poudre School District high schools.

Q: Why should I join YWL?

A: YWL is for those who have an interest in developing your leadership skills, making new friends from other schools, becoming more empowered, growing your confidence, meeting mentors, participating in service projects, and more. We also examine the challenges facing women and how to overcome them. Students will have the opportunity to work with mentors and earn Work Based Learning Credit. We are an inclusive organization; anyone in 9th-12th grade in PSD who finds value in our work is welcome to join.

Q: How is it different from other school activity options?

A: YWL is a unique opportunity for students to see that leadership shows up in a wide range of places and styles. Students have the rare opportunity to collaborate with other students from across the district and do something that can leave a lasting impact on others. The fact is that women, although roughly half of the US population, still lag in top level positions in healthcare, business, government, law, finance, technology, and more.

Q: When and where do you meet?

A: We meet before school on Thursday mornings October through April from 7:00-8:30 AM. We will have a soft start from 7:00-7:15 for students to arrive and get to know one another. Our official launch time will be 7:15. Students who need time to drive back to their home high schools will be able to leave early and work together to create carpools. Please check our website for updates for meeting dates. Our meeting location will be Timnath Middle High School located 4700 E. Prospect Road, Timnath.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: Cost is $20 for the year. Payment can be made to bit.ly/ywldonate.

*If finances are a barrier, please let Heather know and we will come up with a solution.

Q: Who can I contact with questions?

A: You can send an email to Heather Emerson at hemerson@psdschools.org
